Crossover, anyone?

Probably the most frequent question we get asked is if we’re going to have some crazy theme for our wedding.  “I bet the costumes are going to be amazing”  “Will it be steampunk?”  “Will it be Star Wars?”

While we’re delighted that people put such faith in our theme-party planning skills, we’re sorry to disappoint you.  While the wedding will definitely be offbeat and non-traditional, we’re not going to have a geeky theme.

First, I don’t want a renaissance wedding.  No offense to my friends who have had them… it’s just that faire is faire and it gets put in its box for me and should stay there.  That’s why I don’t do SCA.  Second, we dress up all the time, for conventions and events and themed parties and stuff.  If we do the same thing for our wedding, it doesn’t feel all that special.  Third, who knows if in 20 years we’ll look back and think “God, that was tacky.  We don’t even like science fiction any more.”  Hey, anything could happen.

But most of all, Chris and I love elegant, formal occasions.  We love the idea of making art that doesn’t have anything to do with sci fi.  And we love the opportunity to express aspects of ourselves that we’re not necessarily known for.

So there you have it.  If anything, the theme will be Scottish… so break out your kilts, boys and ladies wear your black velvet bands.  :>
