OMG we’re getting married.

Chris and I opened up a joint savings account this weekend.

We knew we were going to do this, to save up for the wedding, and for joint bills and savings later.  And somehow the doing of it was so easy, that it almost slipped by without notice.

But then I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I had a joint financial papertrail with someone for the first time in my life.  And that was a moment of Weird.

Good weird, in the end.  And it’s exciting to know that the number of dollars in there, to pay for our wedding, is going to go up and up until it starts going down.  It’s like a count-up to critical velocity, and then it’ll be a countdown to wedding day.

We decided to do this thing without going into debt.  We don’t need fancy and ostentatious.  We’re simple in that way.  And piled under a mountain of interest rates is not the way to start a life together.  So we pay for what we can save up for, and everything else gets cut.

I, for one, am excited about that.
